Windows 7 overtakes Vista for visiting the site
With the ever expanding use of Windows 7 it was inevitable that one day Windows 7 would out do Windows Vista but I certainly didn’t expect it to happen so fast.
While Windows XP may still be the preferred operating system of choice (55.6% of all visitors) Windows 7 is certainly catching up with a 20.2% share of all visitors (with Vista at 17.6%).
In other news Windows Internet Explorer 8 still the leading web browser with 25.6% of all visitors using it, Firefox 3.6 is the next browser of choice with a close 23.0% share.

Another extra feature! – Get vital details fast
For quite a while the site has has included the 1-5 star rating for the ability of each PC to perform certain tasks (as powered by the wonderful GD Star Rating plug-in); now that feature has been expanded to include some of the vital hardware information which makes up every PC (e.g. hard drive capacity, screen size e.ct.).
However please note this information shouldn’t be considered as a gauge of ‘how good a PC is’ – that’s what the star ratings are for.
As with the naming feature that was added yesterday it will take me a while to update the last few months of PCs with this information so please be patient if not all the information is present.
This is an article about…..
To help you (the readers) find out which PC each article is about I am now adding ‘meta tags’ (little bits of additional information) to each post which has the full name of the PC .
This information is then displayed just underneath the posts date and time so that you can instantly find out which article is about which PC. Its going to take a few days to update the most recent posts so don’t worry if some posts seem to missing the name.

A quick question – Polls
One of the features which I have been meaning to add to the site for a while has been a user poll; right now there are two polls titled ‘Are you happy with your notebook PCs battery life?’ and ‘Which type of company made your last PC?’.
With any luck these polls (and future ones) should help me make the site even better by showing the PCs that meet your needs.
You can vote on these polls through the sidebar (to the right) or by using the forms on the next page-
Happy 2010 + Predictions
First things first- Happy New Year!
Now that’s out of the way lets look at last years predictions and come up with some new ones for the coming year-
Happy Christmas from Recommend me a PC
It’s that time of the year to wish everyone a very merry Christmas!
With any luck (over the past year or so) Recommend me a PC has helped 1,000s of people in the UK find the right PC for their needs and I hope the same holds true over this coming year.
If you were one of the lucky ones to get a new PC (or something to do with one) this Christmas then do put a comment below letting us know.
If you are waiting for the Christmas/January sales then please remember to visit back soon (or use the iGoogle gadget) to help find your perfect PC.
New layout for Mobile Browsers
If you are a regular user of the mobile internet and are looking for a quick fix of Recommend me a PC then the new layout should come as a big bonus.
The mobile version has lost the sidebar and fits on any screen with a resolution of 600pixles in at least one direction and will soon be incorporating a more ‘finger friendly’ menu structure.
Personally if you are looking for a lightweight mobile web browser take a look at Opera Mini (shown to the right on Windows Mobile 6.5) which compresses images before they are loaded letting you get to the pages you want faster.
Finally if your not using it already on your PC have a go at Internet Explorer 8, its easy to use and this whole site has been designed to work best running inside it.
Happy Birthday Recommend me a PC!
Believe it or not the site is now a whole year old!
Originally started up as something to do while working half days the site has changed into a asserted effort to stop people buying the wrong PC for their needs.
Recommend me a PC now includes almost 300 articles on a wide variety of Desktop and Notebook PCs. The knowledge base has expanded to deliver information to help you get the best out of your new PC and features like star ratings have been added to give you a quick overview of the capabilities of each and every PC.
Rest assured the site will continue on into the new year with the same simple advice on the latest and greatest home PCs.
Quick access buttons
Getting to information fast is great – in fact the instant search tool in Windows 7 (and Vista) is possibly one of the greatest features out.
So to help you get to the information that you want (and to do it quickly) I’ve added a few ‘Mini Links’ in place of the single download page link. If you like this feature or can suggest a way to make it better do let me know by adding a comment to this post.
Time for a Holiday
Looks like I’m going to be out for the next few days so you may find things are going a little slower with the site while I’m gone most especially the ‘Recommend me a PC’ service.
In the mean while you may find it useful to visit the highly recommended Desktop and Notebook pages (links on the text) to help find your perfect PC with an instant answer.
When I get back we should be expecting a new Q&A feature so something to look forwards to (I hope at least)!
