AMD Neo Processors – What is the potential?

AMD Neo Processors For a long time Intel have dominated the low powered processor market with the Atom series.
However for a while the rival company AMD have been working on two new processors called Athlon Neo and Turion Neo; we have already started to see the first batch of PCs with these new processors (like the HP dm3 and Lenovo x100e) but as with all things it can only get better.

The idea behind these new processors is to provide a greater level of performance by including a HD ready graphics processor at the same time; so while many Atom powered ‘netbooks’ are limited by graphics processing the AMD ‘ultralights’ aren’t.

Its this combination that makes any PC with a Neo processor inside suitable for anyone who is looking for a PC that’s fully capable of taking on all the everyday tasks like browsing the internet, working with photos/videos and even watching HD video (another thing Atom can’t do).

Designed for a wide range of PCs including low-mid priced (around £400-£600) ultralight and full sized notebooks the AMD Neo processors can help you save money on a more expensive PC (say £550-£800) with a more powerful processor that you don’t actually need.

So what’s in the future of AMD Neo processors?
The apparent idea of Neo processors is to help people spend less on their new PCs while still getting the features that matter; as such I think the Neo line is going to be a big changer in the world of modern PCs by way of reducing prices.
Since AMD also have Neo processors for Desktops we could start to see a re-emergence of low powered but HD capable media centres again at a lower price which could ultimately get more media centre PCs in peoples houses.
