Review – Asus TA-M11
Some time ago I decided that the standard case my HP PC came in was a little too dull for my tastes so I started a search for something that met the following criteria-
- Compatible with both uATX and full sized ATX motherboards
- Had a side window/grill
- Used at least 2x 120mm fans in a intake/exhaust setup
- Had some kind internal of lighting system
- Was fully compatible with all the component parts of my current PC
- Under £50 without a power supply
Eventually I ended up (and bought) at the Asus TA-M11 Vento case from CCL (link) for about £45. The case arrived in good time; ordered on the Saturday, shipped on the Monday and delivered on the Tuesday (which I was pretty happy with).

What PCs do I use?
Thought it might be interesting for everyone to hear which PCs I use at home so here goes-
HP m9365 – Desktop PC My year old Desktop PC that I use for practically everything, its got a Blu Ray Disk Drive and first generation AMD Phenom Processor. I swapped out the case fan and the CPU fan a while after I got it to improve the cooling and then installed a RAID card to get the best performance out of the hard drives. Its nVidia 9800GT graphics card is great, it plays Crysis at pretty much full detail. |
HP dv2-1125 – Ultralight Notebook PC Replaced my aging HP ze2355 a few months ago, runs on the second generation AMD Athlon Neo X2 processor. Runs Adobe Photoshop CS2 perfectly and even a few of my older games. Its got a 12.1” screen and weights 1.7kg. Certainly not the fastest PC on the planet but it loads all the applications that I use regularly fast and is 64bit compatible. |
Custom built – Desktop PC I built this PC out of spare components and use it for playing around with the latest software, right now its running the evaluation version of Windows Small Business Server 2008. Inside is a AMD Athlon II Dual Core Processor that supports Hardware Virtualisation; a while ago I bought a WD VelociRaptor off eBay which loads Windows 7 in 20 seconds flat. |
Asus R2H – Ultra Mobile Tablet PC I bought this PC to use at college, its a first generation Ultra Mobile Tablet PC that runs off a Intel Celeron 900mhz processor. It has a 7” touch screen and weighs just under 1kg with a 4 hr battery. Runs Photoshop well and was greatly useful in ICT lessons to. |
AMD performance from Asus

Feel the need to touch?
In previous years a touch screen PC could cost £1,000+ however that is rapaidly chaning as touch screens become more and more common. To help you find which touch screen PC is right for you Laptops Direct (link) have set aside part of their website for these ultra interactive PCs.
Some of the best options include-
Asus EEE T91 (link) – £366.96
Quite possibly the lowest price for a Touch Screen PC ever the Asus EE T91 is based upon the Intel Atom processor and runs Windows XP. Certainly not the most powerful touch PC ever but fun all the same.
HP Touch Smart TX2-1340 (link) – £735.97
With multi touch technology, a powerful AMD Turion dual core processor and 4GB of RAM this entertainment PC come fully loaded with all the latest technology.
Acer Aspire 5738PG (link) – £679.97
Featuring both a multi touch screen and a multi touch track pad Acer couldn’t of done better with this full sized touch powerhouse. With the perfect combination of a high performance Intel dual core processor and ATI Radeon HD 4570 graphics this PC is also fully capable of HD gaming on the 15.6″ widescreen.
15.6” screen and Extended Battery life
Its rare to see any large screen notebook PC have a battery life over 4 hours and almost impossible to find one with a stated 12 hour battery life! However Asus like the impossible and that’s just what they have achieved with the Asus UL50AG for £657.23 from asuslaptop.co.uk (link).
Inside this modern marvel is a ultra low voltage Intel Core 2 Duo processor (which explains the extended battery life), while not the fastest processor at 1.3ghz you do still get the power required to run Windows 7 Home Premium 64bit and any reasonable number of applications at the same time.
