Office 2010 started edition is included so working with Word and Excel documents won’t be a problem.

High capacity and high speed – VelociRaptor 6Gb/s
Solid state disk drives are great if you want super fast storage but once you leave the 128GB mark they just get into silly money (at least for most people).
So what if you are a enthusiast PC gamer who wants the fastest load times but wants to keep the budget at around £1,000?
It must be time for the new and greatly improved 6Gb/s Western Digital VelociRaptors.
Available now from Computer Planet (link) in any compatible PC and from Novatech (link) as a upgrade to your PC these new hard drives have double the transfer speed of the previous generation and a capacity of up to 600GB.
So what makes the VelociRaptor so special?
While most normal Desktop PC hard drives would spin at either 5,400rpm or 7,200rpm the VelociRaptor spins at a massive 10,000rpm; furthermore it comes with the latest SATA-III connector (which is why you need to be sure your motherboard is compatible) allowing for up to 6GB/s of transfer speed.
DIY Mini PC with HD
Have you ever wanted to build your own PC but didn’t quite know where to start? Maybe its time to have a look at the Zotac Z-Box ION D510 barebones bundle from dabs.com (link) for £189.96 ready to add your own choice of components.
Make no mistake, this PC comes with no hard drive, no RAM, no disk drive and no operating system pre installed (that’s the bit where you come in) lucky though Dabs has a wide range to choose from.
What you do however get installed is a Intel Atom dual core processor, HD nVidia graphics (a big step up from the standard Intel graphics), a stylish case and onboard N class Wi-Fi.
CyberPower Systems – Great for every kind of gamer
Weather your a gaming fanatic or just interested in a casual round or two of Call of Duty Modern Warfare 2 CyberPower systems has the custom built PC for you.
This is especially true of the new Ultra Triton XT which comes with a massive range of customisable features and for around £640 you can pickup a Quad Core powered, ATI graphics crunching, Blu Ray playing monster PC.
Security Essentials now as standard from PC Specialist
Many PC manufactures (like HP and Sony) generally opt to provide every new PC with a ‘free’ copy of Norton Anti Virus/another anti virus application which usually works for a few months before you have to pay to continue the subscription.
The problem is not very many people go for this essential anti virus protection after the trial period and thus leave their PCs open to all manner of problems.
It appears that PC Specialist (link) has clued into this and as such are now offering Microsoft Security Essentials (a truly free anti virus application) as standard on all their new PCs.
This is great news and I hope that more manufactures catch on with this to help make the world virus free!

What PCs do I use?
Thought it might be interesting for everyone to hear which PCs I use at home so here goes-
HP m9365 – Desktop PC My year old Desktop PC that I use for practically everything, its got a Blu Ray Disk Drive and first generation AMD Phenom Processor. I swapped out the case fan and the CPU fan a while after I got it to improve the cooling and then installed a RAID card to get the best performance out of the hard drives. Its nVidia 9800GT graphics card is great, it plays Crysis at pretty much full detail. |
HP dv2-1125 – Ultralight Notebook PC Replaced my aging HP ze2355 a few months ago, runs on the second generation AMD Athlon Neo X2 processor. Runs Adobe Photoshop CS2 perfectly and even a few of my older games. Its got a 12.1” screen and weights 1.7kg. Certainly not the fastest PC on the planet but it loads all the applications that I use regularly fast and is 64bit compatible. |
Custom built – Desktop PC I built this PC out of spare components and use it for playing around with the latest software, right now its running the evaluation version of Windows Small Business Server 2008. Inside is a AMD Athlon II Dual Core Processor that supports Hardware Virtualisation; a while ago I bought a WD VelociRaptor off eBay which loads Windows 7 in 20 seconds flat. |
Asus R2H – Ultra Mobile Tablet PC I bought this PC to use at college, its a first generation Ultra Mobile Tablet PC that runs off a Intel Celeron 900mhz processor. It has a 7” touch screen and weighs just under 1kg with a 4 hr battery. Runs Photoshop well and was greatly useful in ICT lessons to. |
Fed up with a beige box? Try Cyber Power
Although PCs now come in more colours than just beige the average case can look pretty boring, a blue power light, a small side grill that lets you see your processor fan and a few stickers is the most many people can expect.
Fortunately the people at Cyber Power Systems (link) think differently.
While specialising in high performance Gaming PCs Cyber Power system also have an impressive range of custom built PCs suitable for average home users who are looking for a bit more a lights show from their PC.
One such example is the Ultra Athena (link) which includes a AMD Quad Core Processor, ATI Graphics and Windows 7 Home Premium all in the CoolerMaster Elite 310 case for around £407.73.
Looking for a low noise PC?
The components inside a modern PC generate a lot of heat which must be removed by fans; unfortunately these fans generate noise. Add on to that vibrations caused by hard drives and the sound of your PC can become one of the most annoying things in the house. Luckily PC Specialist (link) have introduced the Coolermaster Sileo 500 into their line which features noise reducing technology to make sure you can work/play uninterrupted by whirring fans.
